The Story Behind Maple: Our Journey and Commitment
Welcome to Maple, your destination for top-quality refurbished laptops and MacBooks. But before you dive into our offerings, let us take a moment to share the story of how our company came to be.
In 2009, Cebtec Ltd was established as our legal entity, representing Charles Edward Brand Tec (yes, those are my initials). However, the roots of Maple extend back to 2004, when I sold my very first electronic item online at the age of 13. This exhilarating experience sparked the idea for a business that would later go on to sell millions of pounds worth of electronics worldwide.
It all began with a humble Sony HiFi stacking system that I acquired for a mere £5.50. Recognising the demand for its individual components, I split and sold them separately, eventually turning a profit of over £200 within a few weeks. This early success ignited my passion for the world of electronics and set the stage for what was to come.
Fast forward to my time in school, ironically whilst sitting in an A level Business class, where an insatiable curiosity led me to stare outside the classroom door at the stack of computers in the corridor, rather than listening to the lesson. Discovering that these machines were destined for disposal, I plucked up the courage to ask whether I could recycle these for the school. By registering a company and obtaining the necessary Environment Agency permits, I was able to perform this first collection. I decided to put my University place on hold, and pursue a business recycling computers for schools and businesses across South London. This venture eventually paved the way for our own brand of computer manufactured with refurbished components, the “Maple Profurb,” which opened up affordable computing options for individuals, education and business customers, whilst maintaining the ‘new’ feel and warranty.
As our recycling business developed, the desire to provide excellent value refurbished computing grew stronger. Meanwhile the emergence of Apple was taking place, and greater demand for portable electronics, we wanted to make these essential devices accessible to students and budget-conscious businesses who might not want to invest heavily in brand-new equipment. This focus on refurbishing Apple Macs led us to deliver thousands of Apple items to our customers.
To further promote the principles of reuse and recycling, we established CashGadget. This platform empowers consumers to sell their electronic items quickly, effortlessly, risk free, and at a fair price.
